Wheat grass juice – Green blood

Wheatgrass is considered as the elixir of life. Intake of wheat grass juice is almost like a blood transfusion. It is a wonderful cleanser and rejuvenator which means it detoxifies the body and helps it replace old dead cells with new cells. It is anti-aging and immuno-booster. Wheatgrass is high in oxygen like all green plants that contain chlorophyll, so the brain and all body tissues function at an optimal level in a highly-oxygenated environment. Dr. Bernard Jensen says that it takes only minutes to digest wheatgrass juice and it uses up very little body energy. Dr. Ann Wigmore had been helping people get well from chronic disorders for 30 years using wheatgrass and termed wheatgrass juice as ‘green blood’.

Wheatgrass Juice is one of the best sources of living chlorophyll

available. Chlorophyll is the basis of all plant life, is responsible for giving plants their green color, and, is the one which absorbs energy from the sun which then is transported throughout the plant. This chlorophyll is upto 40% similar to human blood. The chlorophyll molecule bears a close resemblance to haemoglobin – the red pigment in human blood. It differs only in the central element which, in case of blood is iron, and in case of chlorophyll is magnesium. Magnesium found in the protons of chlorophyll is essential and beneficial for our body. Many of the benefits of wheatgrass juice stem from the fact that it is a living food, which is a complete protein with about 30 enzymes and is approximately 70% crude chlorophyll. Chlorophyll seems to loosen stool and encourage bowel movements. If you’re constipated, that’s a good thing, and it can help get things moving. Chlorophyll also purifies blood, boosts up the functions of heart, intestines, liver, lungs and kidneys. It cleanses the lymphatic system and restores balance in the body.  Science has proven that chlorophyll arrests growth and development of unfriendly bacteria. Wheatgrass has what is called the ‘grass-juice factor’ which has been shown to keep herbivorous animals alive indefinitely. Liquid chlorophyll gets into the tissues, refines them, and makes them over. Wheatgrass juice is a superior detoxification agent compared to carrot juice and other fruits and vegetables. Dr. Earp-Thomas, associate of Dr. Ann Wigmore, says that 15 pounds of wheatgrass is the equivalent of 350 pounds of carrots, lettuce, celery, and so forth.

Wheatgrass Juice contains most of the vitamins and minerals needed for human maintenance, including the elusive B12. Wheat grass juice furnishes the body with vital nourishment, providing extra energy to the body. This juice contains nearly 70 per cent of chlorophyll. It is a rich source of vitamins A, B, C and contains minerals like calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, sulphur, cobalt, and zinc. It purifies the blood due to its high vitamin and mineral contents. It detoxifies the body and helps maintain good health. Wheatgrass contain loads of alkaline minerals that helps restore alkalinity and neutralize acid production in the body. Proteins and amino acids support the vital functions of the body, boost energy and are essential for muscles, skin, nails and hair.

Digestive system

The insoluble fiber in wheatgrass gently cleanses your digestive tract and promotes regularity in bowel movements. Wheat grass juice can also be used as an enema to detoxify the walls of the colon.

Skin Diseases

If has been scientifically proved that chlorophyll arrests growth and development of harmful bacteria. Wheat grass therapy can thus be effectively used for skin diseases and ulcerated wounds. By retarding bacterial action, it promotes cell activity and normal re-growth. Wheat grass juice has natural anti-septic properties. A gauge, soaked in wheat grass juice, placed on the cut or wound, abrasion or a ruptured boil has a healing action. This juice can also be used in diluted form to wash the germs off the wounds.

Wheat grass juice gargles yield considerable relief in the throat pain/ inflammation/soreness etc. Vitamin-A helps keep the skin healthy and lustrous, helps to cure black spots, blemishes, dark circles and puffiness of eyes, improves the eyesight and nourishes hair.

Eye-care

This juice can also be used to wash eyes and is effective as an eye-bath (using an eye-cup). It helps keeping them clean and lustrous.

Circulatory Disorders
The chlorophyll content present in wheat grass enhances heart and lung functions, capillary activity increases and toxemia is reduced. Wheat grass juice increases red blood-cell count and lowers blood pressure. The constitution of our blood is a bit alkaline and the proportion of hydrogen molecules (ph) in it is 7.4. Similarly wheat grass is also alkaline and its pH is, too, 7.4. That is the reason why wheat grass is quickly absorbed in the blood and therefore benefits our body and cures anaemia. Magnesium present in chlorophyll is known to lower the blood pressure, relax muscles of heart and prevent heart diseases.

Respiratory system

As chlorophyll helps in increasing the iron content in the blood and thereby haemoglobin, lungs function better, oxygenation improves and the effect of carbon-dioxide is minimized.

Several other diseases can be treated successfully by regular drinking of wheat grass juice. These include arthritis, psoriasis, premature graying and falling of hair, general weakness and debility, kidney stones, weak eyesight, abdominal pain, asthma, constipation and insomnia. Wheat grass juice also washes away toxic drug deposits from the body.

To sum it all up, benefits of drinking wheatgrass is focused in improving natural health, nutrition and overall well-being.

How to grow wheat-grass

Take 10-12 small pots and sow wheat in them. For planting, clean and wash the wheat grains and soak them overnight in water. Spread the soaked grains in the pot filled with organic soil the next day. Darkness helps the grains to sprout quickly. So it is advisable to cover the pot with any newspaper or cloth and place it on a balcony. Remember to spray the grains daily with some water till the green leaves sprout up. Keep covering the pots with the newspaper till then. Later stop covering the pots. Keep them away from direct sun rays. In 8-10 days it will gain a height of 7-8 inches. Cut it with clean scissors about ½ “above the soil surface. This harvested wheatgrass is ready to be juiced. The grass will grow back in a week’s time. Pull out a handful of pods along with the roots. After the second harvest crush all the roots and mix with the soil. The soil is ready for a fresh sowing. To derive maximum advantage, the pulp should be ground and the juice extracted for two or three times. The juice so extracted should be taken immediately, as its efficacy reduces every minute and the medicinal value is completely lost after three hours. Keeping10-12 pots would ensure a fresh harvest every day. The grass should not exceed the length of 7-8 inches.

Dosage

For normal health maintenance it is 1-4 oz/30-120ml daily; therapeutic dosage is 4-8 oz/120-240ml daily. Wheatgrass is a powerful “detoxifier” of both the liver and large intestine. Consequently, people should gradually increase from one ounce a day to eight ounces spread throughout the day. You can take about 60ml in the morning as well as in the evening. It will begin to show the positive results in 15-20 days. In cases of chronic diseases, favorable changes can be visualized in the laboratory investigations in about 2-3 months.

It is advisable to take the juice early in the morning on an empty stomach. After taking the wheat grass or its juice, do not eat or drink anything for about half an hour. The juice gets absorbed in the intestines within half an hour of its intake. Those who find it inconvenient to take it in the early morning can take at any time during the day, when the stomach is empty. Wheat grass juice does not combine well with other foods and should always be taken on an empty stomach.

A note of caution

A “detox” effect occurs when the body rapidly undergoes removal of toxins such as heavy metals, bad fats, carcinogens, metabolic waste, and impurities in the human body. This rapid excretion of toxins presents itself as headache, nausea and diarrhoea. The doses of wheatgrass juice can be re-scheduled as per the occurrence of symptoms.Once the toxins are removed from the body, the side effects no longer occur. These “detox effects” usually subside over a short period of time.
